Thinking outside of the cupcake case

August 3, 2011

With the American import of cupcakes proving to be an enduring staple in cake world, it’s no surprise that people would look for creative ways to showcase them outside of the usual cupcake case.

While we can’t deny the classic appeal of a cupcake in a metallic cupcake case, we’ve featured a couple of summery alternatives to get your imaginations going.

At the time of writing the UK is basking in roasting temperatures, causing many to reach for the sun cream and an ice cream.  Our cupcake cones will last a little longer in this wilting heat, as they feature buttercream sitting on top of a cone containing a syrup-infused sponge for extra moisture.  These cupcake cones are presented in a metallic beach pail to keep the seaside theme going.

A recent craze has been for cupcakes in jars, for those who enjoy eating their cupcake with a spoon.  We’ve done a variation on that theme, with this cupcake sundae in a fluted glass:

Presenting the cupcake in this way does supersize it somewhat, which makes it perfect for sharing.

Using props to showcase cupcakes also adds interesting heights to your cupcake displays:

And so we might call them cupcake hermits.  That is cupcakes who don’t like to inhabit their shells (or cases) but like to find their home somewhere a little more unusual.

I love seeing something we’re all familiar with given a new twist. It makes it exciting again! That’s for sharing.
